Even with the same species, the needs of a particular plant vary drastically if it's housed inside the home. Not only are indoor plants limited by space, but they also don't go dormant during winter like flora planted outdoors. As a result, you need to follow a different set of care tips to achieve optimal health and growth. Here's what you need to know.

How to Help Your Indoor Plants Thrive

1. Prune Regularly

The presence of any dead, damaged, or underperforming sections put the overall health of the flora at risk. Such areas siphon nutrients from healthy parts of the vegetation, which prevents optimal growth and increases the chance of disease.

For those reasons, it's important to prune indoor plants in the same manner as their outdoor counterparts. Typically, the process needs to occur at the end of winter and the beginning of fall.

2. Monitor Moisture Levels

indoor plantsAll vegetation needs water to survive, but too much hydration can hinder its growth. Avoid watering each pot until the top inch of soil is dried out. It's also important to check the desired humidity level of each species.

Too dry of air can cause browning of the leaves, while too much moisture increases the risk of fungal and mold growth. When additional moisture is only needed for some of your plants, utilize a zone-specific humidifier or mist the leaves daily with a spray bottle.

3. Utilize Artificial Lighting

Every species has its own set of lighting requirements, but all greenery requires some level of light. However, window direction and seasonal changes make it challenging to ensure that each one is receiving the necessary sunlight levels year-round. Fortunately, artificial lighting is readily available and easily adjustable, allowing you to customize the amount of light within each area of your home.
