Watering is a standard procedure for gardeners of all levels of expertise. While moisture is vital to the success of plants, an overabundance of hydration can end up doing more harm than good. If you're struggling to determine the correct level and frequency of watering, here are three surefire signs that you need to reduce your regimen.

When Are You Overwatering Your Plants?

1. Brown & Wilting Leaves

Most overwatering symptoms are displayed in the leaves. Often, the foliage becomes brown as if it's burnt. This symptom can be accompanied by limpness, which can also occur on its own. Unlike underwatering, wilting over-watered leaves become soft instead of crispy.

2. Leaf Lesions & Growths

plantsWhen you water, the roots soak up the liquid and distribute it to the individual cells of the flora, which expand. Yet, when there's too much moisture, the cells grow too large and actually explode and die. This process results in blisters and sores on the surface. Once they burst, the spots transform to wart-like growths in varying colors.

3. Stagnant Growth

The size and growth rate of plants vary based on their species and care. While hydration is vital for accelerated expansion, too much inhibits the development of both outdoor and indoor plants. In such situations, the vegetation makes none or only minimal advances in size. It also typically results in yellowing and falling leaves of all growth stages, and blooms are unlikely to open.
