Pet dental service is essential for all types of animals, but rabbits have unique needs that make dental care more complicated. Rabbit teeth never stop growing, so they’re prone to tooth-related issues. Below are a few tips to help you care for your rabbit’s teeth.

How to Keep a Rabbit’s Teeth Healthy

1. Monitor Their Diet

Since rabbits’ teeth grow constantly, they naturally keep them in check by chewing on hay and branches in the wild. People who keep rabbits as pets sometimes feed them pellets, which provide nutritional value but don’t offer the benefit of chewing. To prevent problems, timothy hay should be the main part of their diet, and limit the amount of pellets to no more than 1/4-1/2 cup per day depending on the size of your rabbit.

2. Check Teeth Regularly

However, you should check out the front ones about once a week, and do a full inspection about once per month. If you notice any changes, consult your veterinarian to see if you should change the feeding habits or determine if your rabbit has an underlying condition that impacts their appetite.

3. Look for Negative Signs

Aside from visually checking their teeth, you may notice other signs of dental health issues by monitoring your rabbit closely. For example, decreased stool production, loss of appetite or lack of interest in hay may indicate tooth pain or trouble chewing correctly. Additionally, teeth that are too big can change the shape of a rabbit’s skull, which may cause drooling or blockage in the eye ducts.
