Boxers usually lose speed when they pack on the pounds. Not only do your punches get slower, but your ability to block incoming punches also decreases. You won’t be able to move around the ring as easily and may tire out quicker during the fight.

How to Effectively Add More Weight

Besides eating protein, you need to incorporate low-GI carbohydrates and healthy fats. Some of the best foods to eat are dried fruits, salmon, chia seeds, avocado, chickpeas, whole-meal pasta, and smoothies. You can also use supplements like fish oils and vitamin D to enhance muscle growth.

For exercise, start by lifting lighter weights three to four times a week and do eight to 12 reps. Once you’ve mastered that, drop the weekly sessions to two to three times and increase the weight load to where you can only do three to six reps.
