A brokerage can be an invaluable resource for a real estate agent. Not all of them are made the same, however, and you want to ensure the one you choose provides the most opportunities and perks. Whether you’re considering switching brokerages or are looking for your first, consider the following for the best outcome.

Why Real Estate Agents Should Choose a Brokerage

1. Tired of Fees

While it’s not always possible to fully escape fees, you want to trim them as much as possible. Many franchise brokerages belong to large regional or national companies and have to pay fees to that organization. In turn, employees—including real estate agents—will have to pay fees. When looking at brokers or brokerages, ask for a full list of all expected fees you’ll face should you join.

2. Short On Resources & Support

real-estate-agent-flower-moundBrokerages generate the bulk of leads a real estate agent will use. If yours isn’t generating sufficient leads, it may not justify associated service fees. Brokerages often provide tools, support, and further training for real estate agents. If you feel they aren’t helping you further your career, it’s likely time for a change.

3. Unhappy With the Commission Plan

For every transaction, the brokerage is going to take its share. There can be a 50/50, 60/40, 70/30, or other split. Others may provide 100% commissions through additional fees such as insurance, transaction fees, desk fees, or cost of equipment usage to take their cut. If you’re not happy with the existing or proposed plan, move on.
