Thanksgiving is a time for showing appreciation and being grateful for the many blessings in life. Expressing gratitude is an essential Christian teaching, and the concept of giving thanks is detailed many times in the Bible. Whether it’s through prayer or your daily actions, here are a few ways you can express gratitude this season.

3 Ways to Show Your Thanks as a Christian

1. Pray

The simplest and often most effective way to give thanks to God is through direct prayer. Share a silent thought with the Lord before you get out of bed, take a bite of food, and lay down to sleep, and thank Him for blessing you with your health, home, and family. As you pray your thanks, list specific ways His blessings have made your life better and happier.

2. Serve Others

christianThe Bible also discusses the importance of giving to others as a way of being thankful for what you have. Give back through small actions, like donating a few dollars to your favorite charity, or participate in larger service projects, such as working at a soup kitchen or helping out the local youth groups.

3. Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude

When life doesn’t go your way, search for the positive instead of wallowing in self-pity. Start a daily practice of keeping a journal and writing what you’re thankful for, even in situations that may seem negative on the surface. Looking at hardships in a different light will help you be grateful for the chance to grow and follow God’s plan.
