Bowling is an exciting activity for individuals of all ages. If you're new to the sport, there are a few tricks that will help you improve your game. You should also know how to act on the floor to ensure everyone can have a good time. Here are a few tips to help you refine your skills and sportsmanship.

Do:

Choose the right ball.

The weight of a bowling ball affects both your performance and comfort. They typically range from eight to 16 pounds, and experts recommend choosing one that's equal to around 10% of your body weight. For example, if you weigh 100 pounds, pick one that weighs around 10.

Test out balls until you find one that has finger holes that don’t feel too tight or too loose. There should be at least a pencil's width of room between your hand and the ball when you hold it.

Be courteous.

All players are expected to follow bowling alley etiquette. These rules include no shouting or engaging in behavior that could be disruptive to the players on the other lanes. Don’t forget to wait for the pins to reset from the previous throw to toss your ball.

Don't:

Focus on the pins.

bowlingOne of the biggest mistakes newbies make is looking at the pins when lining up their shots. The distance between the approach (where you throw the ball) and the pins is too great to ensure accuracy with this method. Instead, turn your attention to the corresponding arrows and dots that run across the middle of the lane.

Underestimate good form.

The correct form not only helps you become a better bowler, but also prevents muscle soreness. One of the most important steps involves keeping your wrist straight when holding the ball, even during the throw. Also, don't release your grip until your hand is at the level of your extended foot. This move ensures a smooth transition and helps guide your throw in the right direction.
