When staging a concert, it's essential to ensure that both the talent and crowd remain safe. Along with facility maintenance and compliance with fire codes and other regulations, crowd control is an important element to security. Here are three tips for successful crowd control at your next event.

How to Implement Successful Crowd Control

1. Sell a Limited Number of Tickets

Understandably, you’d want as many people as possible to attend your event, mainly if it’s a profitable function. However, it’s important not to oversell tickets. The larger the crowd, the more difficult it will be to maintain a safe, enjoyable experience for all. Also, consider staging. If space is too overcrowded, audience members may get frustrated or even attempt to get a better view by moving into restricted areas.

2. Limit Entry Points

StagingKnow and follow the maximum occupancy regulations to maintain a safe, legal event. In addition to selling a limited number of tickets, make sure there are plenty of marked exits but fewer entry points. Entrances should be guarded by well-trained individuals who ask for proof of ticket purchase before allowing entry. You may want to implement a rule not to let individuals back in if they leave the event as well. Rent barriers to keep crowds away from unauthorized areas, including the stage. One of the most crucial elements of staging is ensuring no one can approach the performers without permission.

3. Hire Security

Investing in professional security staff can protect your property, employees, and the attendees. These staff members can guard the doors, resolve conflicts, and remove anyone who poses a threat to themselves or others. Make sure that the security you hire is trained to diffuse tension and that they’re well equipped to care for attendees, such as by knowing where the first-aid tents are and how to locate law enforcement if necessary.
