1. Stretch Before Bed

A lot of back pain arises from tense muscles, so try stretching before bed. Put your legs out straight and slowly lean forward, reaching for your toes. Follow this with light spinal twists to each side. If you want to do a full-on workout, the exercise might also induce tiredness and restful sleep. Stretch in the morning as well so you start the day loose and refreshed.

2. Change Positions

back painYour sleeping position affects how well your body is supported. Therefore, try switching from what you usually do. For a few days, sleep on your back with a small pillow beneath your knees. If that is uncomfortable, roll over onto your side with a pillow between your knees to keep your spine straight. Fetal position is often effective for those with herniated discs.

3. Invest in a New Mattress

If your mattress is old or poor quality, it could be contributing to your back pain, so consider upgrading. Generally, a firm mattress will provide better support, though it’s best to try out options in person. Consider memory foam, adjustable beds, and hybrid options.
