Living with back pain can be a constant nuisance. It impacts every aspect of your life, including sleep. Gradually, sleep deprivation can introduce a whole host of other problems. The sleep positions listed below will reduce pain and help you rest easy. When coupled with chiropractic care, you can count on overcoming discomfort.

Sleeping Positions for Lower Back Pain

1. On Your Stomach

While sleeping on your stomach can be problematic, if you provide the proper support, you’ll avoid issues and find pain relief. Lay flat on your stomach with your legs straight out. Then, position a pillow under your pelvis. Use a pillow for your head if you feel comfortable. This position alleviates stress that occurs between your vertebrae and spinal discs.

2. Reclined on Your Back

back painA tried-and-true position is on your back. Lay straight with your legs out and arms at your side or on your chest. Use several pillows below your head to achieve an inclined position. It can be helpful to invest in an adjustable bed if you have chronic back pain. The reclined angle will reduce pressure on your spine.

3. On Your Side

To reduce back pain, lay evenly on your right or left side so that everything from your shoulder to the side of your foot contacts the mattress. Then, place a comfortable pillow between your knees horizontal to the bed. This better aligns the spine and will alleviate pain generated in your lower back. Change which side you sleep on each night to avoid other back issues.
