It’s that time of year again — time to reflect on past experiences and determine how they can best be used to shape your path. While looking back may not seem like an effective method for welcoming the New Year, life coaches recommend it for the level of insight it provides. Here are four steps you can follow to evaluate your life and find the direction in which it should go.

4 Steps for Shaping Your Path for the New Year

1. Create a List of Blessings

Start with the positives and create a list of all the things that you’re grateful for. Whether it’s a group of friends or a morning cup of coffee, write down everything that makes you feel happy. Life coaches believe that the simple practice of recording your blessings will instill a positive outlook on life and what’s to come.

2. Figure Out What Can Change

life coachDo you want to get more out of the friendships that you have? Or are you determined to try something new at least once per month? Figure out what you want more of in life and intentionally make those changes. This will allow for experiences that otherwise couldn’t have been enjoyed.

3. Determine What’s Important

Take time to determine the priorities in your life. If family is top of the list, make time to meet up with loved ones and reestablish those relationships. If it’s education and learning, try to find new avenues for instruction and take courses that focus on topics of interest. Life coaches encourage clients to examine their priorities to prevent distractions and ensure the year is productive.

4. Take the First Step

After you’ve completed the above, it’s time to begin making a difference. Create a mission statement based around the things that are important to you. Wake up every morning reminding yourself of the blessings that have been provided throughout the year and choose to be intentional with the day. The little steps that are taken each moment will set your path and ensure that you’re closer to achieving your goals.
