One way for companies to improve communication and camaraderie in their teams is to host corporate events. These get-togethers can work wonders to boost employee morale, but only if you can get people to open up. Here are three fun icebreakers you can use to get people talking.

3 Ideas for Corporate Event Icebreakers

1. Find Common Facts

If you have multiple branches, you might notice that each team tends to stick to their own at company-wide events. To encourage people to meet others outside of their office and department, ask your team to seek out other employees with a search for facts in common. For example, they can ask about professional roles and formal education. But encourage people to look for unique details that will start organic conversations, like places traveled or unusual hobbies. Afterward, have employees write these commonalities down on a piece of paper, then share the cards (with employees’ permission) to the group.

2. Two Truths & a Lie

corporate eventsEvery career is different, so give your employees the chance to share their funny stories by asking them to play two truths and a lie. After splitting teams into small groups, ask employees to take turns stating two facts about their time with the company and one lie, giving the rest of their table the chance to identify the falsehood. For instance, a player might state that they have been with the company for five years, they work in human resources, and that they once ate lunch with the CEO—when they work in administration.

3. Speed Meeting Activity

If your team seems reluctant to meet new people, make it a requirement by setting up a speed-meeting activity. Arrange tables into a long row with chairs down each side. Assign a handful of employees to sit on one side of the table without moving and another batch of employees to advance from chair to chair down the other side every few minutes. In addition to giving your employees the chance to practice their first impressions, they’ll be able to talk to everyone.

To make your speed meeting activity particularly useful, give a new topic of discussion every ten minutes. For instance, one topic could be ways to reduce company expenses, while another conversation could center around improving employee morale. You might be surprised to see how many of your workers have ideas that could help your entire organization.
