As with any other vehicle, your tractor requires routine fluid refills, engine checks, and other maintenance to keep it in good condition for years. If you are new to tractor ownership, educate yourself about some of the most common problems so that you can avoid issues with the starter among other components. The more quickly you can identify a problem, the less damage the tractor will sustain.

Top 4 Issues That Tractors Face

1. Not Enough Storage Space

Your tractor needs plenty of space due to its power ram hydraulics system. This system allows the buckets and outriggers to lower, usually to the ground, if the tractor goes unused for an extended period. While this is a normal occurrence, a lowering outrigger can rend anything nearby, such as your car or truck. Give your tractor its own space to prevent this problem.

2. Overfilling Fluid Levels

starterMaintaining the fluid levels in your tractor is essential to its function, but be careful not to overfill. Oil, for example, expands as it heats up and can clog your carburetor. Keep fluid levels between the high and low marks to maintain the vehicle.

3. Overheated Engine

A tractor engine overheats when its radiator does not have enough coolant to mitigate the temperature. Use a mixture of equal parts distilled water and antifreeze to solve this issue, and never pour regular water into the radiator. The minerals in the water can clog this important component. Additionally, do not touch the radiator cap when the engine is hot, as the steam can scald you.

4. Engine Will Not Start or Stay On

Engine problems may cause your tractor to start then immediately die, or make the engine turn but not start the vehicle. If your engine starts but will not stay on, its fuel is probably contaminated with gasoline. Drain the gasoline and refill the tank with fresh diesel fuel. If your engine turns but refuses to start, a clogged fuel line or filter is the likely culprit. Clean one or both of these parts to avoid starter problems in the future.
