Develop a specific, realistic and emotional fitness goal.

The first thing you have to do is create a goal for yourself and get focused on making your resolutions a reality. Being specific helps you track your progress. Keeping the goal realistic minimizes frustration and creates victories on your journey towards your goals. And you must have passion for WHY you train and exercise. Is it for more self-confidence? Is it to accomplish something you have never done before (a 5k run, climb a mountain, etc.)? Is it to make you feel better and be happier? Dig "deep" on your WHY.

Does the gym, club, studio or fitness center have the environment, equipment and programs to accomplish your goals?
Like elite athletes, we all need to surround ourselves with supportive people. Therefore, the gym culture (staff and members) is vital to your success. Facilities should also be clean and the equipment well-maintained. There is nothing more frustrating than out of order equipment and nasty locker rooms. Programs are great support too. Again, its much easier to obtain your goals with like-minded people.

Is the facility close to my work and/or home?
Convenience is key. In particular, most fitness industry experts agree that people are more likely to stick to their program if their gym is within a 3-4 mile radius from work or home. 

Cost.
