Many people claim they can't live without their garbage disposals, but find they have to if it gets jammed, starts leaking, or just stops working.
As one of the best plumbers in Cincinnati, we at Allied Reddi-Rooter know how frustrating these problems can be, so we have some tips for what to do if your unit goes out:
- Try The Reset Button: If your garbage disposal isn't doing anything, meaning it isn't even attempting to run, then it likely isn't getting any power. Try pushing the reset button on the bottom of the unit, which will usually correct the problem. If that doesn't work, check the outlet it's plugged into and reset the circuit from your breaker panel.
- Clear Out Blockages: When a large object gets jammed between the grinder blades, you may be able to use a hex wrench to get it out. Look for a hex hole on the bottom of the unit and turn it back and forth a few times. This should free the impellers and clear out the blockages. If this doesn't work, try to pull it out from the drain hole with tongs or pliers. If you don't want to do any work that's this invasive, call an experienced plumber from Allied Reddi-Rooter and they'll resolve the issue right away.
- Make Sure It's Intact: Always make sure you're running enough water through the disposal when it's operating to prevent a grinding sound, and try a regular drain cleaning product. If it sounds fine but doesn't work, the blades may be broken.
- Call A Professional: In addition to a full range of plumbing services, we can safely and effectively repair your garbage disposal. Our plumbing repair technicians always arrive promptly with the tools they need to get the job done right.
