Open Enrollment for individual health plans extends from November 1, 2020 to December 15, 2020 for coverage beginning January 1, 2021. Whether you’re currently covered or trying to enroll for the first time, here are a few tips for evaluating your health insurance options.

Navigating 2021 Open Enrollment for Health Insurance

Why Should You Re-Examine Your Health Insurance Options Every Year?

Even if you are now on a health insurance plan, it’s worth investigating different insurance plans and providers every year during Open Enrollment. You may find that, due to changing marketplace regulations, your current plan’s terms have changed, making it more expensive. Alternatively, new providers may have been added to your area offering more appropriate coverage for your needs.  If you have a current individual plan with New Mexico Health Connections, it is critical that you choose a new plan for 2021 during Open Enrollment.

How Can I Apply for Health Insurance?

It is possible to explore health insurance plans on your own, but the process can be baffling and time-consuming.  If you’d prefer to explore your options in depth, it is much more efficient to work with a trusted insurance agent. They are aware of current marketplace practices and coverage terms and can introduce you to plans that fit your specific needs and price range.  Dawna Walters is the Life and Health Specialist here at Western States Don't Miss DeadlineInsurance.  Call Dawna at 575-308-0441 or come see us at Western States Insurance 212 N. What Happens If I Miss the Open Enrollment Deadline?

When Open Enrollment ends on December 15, 2020, you will no longer be able to apply for coverage for the 2021 period.  Now is the time to act if you wish to change your existing plan or enroll in a new plan.  Only certain individuals—such as those who move out-of-state, lose a job, get married, or have a baby—can qualify for the Special Enrollment period starting January 1, 2021.
