If your young student is struggling with online learning, they’re not alone. Many kids find online learning particularly difficult for many reasons. By understanding what your young one is struggling with, you can help them get the math help they need to succeed in their studies.

  1.  Set up a good routine

Building good habits is essential for everything in life but especially in studying.  Maintaining a good routing is vital to a student’s success during online learning.  Make sure to create a good routine and keep with it.  This involves going to bed at a good time, waking up at a good time, having breakfast, personal hygiene, and so on.  The routine does not have to be the same as a typical routine would be before the pandemic but make sure to find some type of beneficial routine and stick to it.  For parents, make sure the children build a routine and are dedicated to it!

  1. Find a way to stay focused and eliminate distractions

With online learning comes distractions.  There are many things that can distract students during online learning.  There can be other websites online, the student’s home environment, items in the student’s workspace, and more that can pull their attention away from what’s going on in class.  Being able to stay focused and stay engaged will ensure that the student is actively learning and retaining the information in class.  Losing focus during online learning can be very detrimental to the long-term retention of the course’s information so it is very important to pay attention to what is going on in class.

  1. Interact in class

One of the best ways to keep focused and to retain the material is to participate in class whenever possible.  This helps a student retain the information, apply the concept, and reinforce the knowledge allowing the student to truly grasp what is being taught.  The more a student is able to participate will likely correlate with a better grade that they are receiving in that class.  Answering questions, participating in breakout sessions, and engaging with the teacher will allow the student to get a better understanding of the material!

  1. Take breaks

An important part of a student’s schedule should be planning when to take breaks during the day.  One of the worst things that can happen is a student will overwork themselves and start to burn out and lose focus.  Taking a break will help a kid get their mind off of school and will reduce their stress levels.  The more relaxed a student is, the more success they will have during classes and they will be able to better cope with the stressful moments that school might bring!
