Right along with appliances, your mattress is one of the most significant investments you’ll make. To ensure it lasts for as long as possible, it’s important to keep it clean. Unfortunately, due to their size and construction, they can’t be easily washed or wiped down like other materials. If you haven’t done so already, incorporate the following in your overall cleaning routine.

How to Revitalize a Mattress

1. Fabric Freshener

You can use a freshening and cleansing spray that’s typically used for cleaning upholstery or yoga mats. Whether you buy it or make it yourself, make sure you only use a light spritzing, or else the cleaner could damage the foam or cause the internal springs to rust.

2. Vacuum Cleaner

mattressContaminants like dust, fabric fibers, pet hair, and dandruff can quickly accumulate on the surface and folds of a mattress. The most effective way to remove them is with a vacuum cleaner. Use both the upholstery and the crevice attachments for the most thorough cleaning.

2. Baking Soda

If you need to deodorize your mattress, sprinkle some baking soda on it. Lightly cover the entire surface and let it sit for at least an hour. If the odor is still present, let the baking soda sit for over an hour.

Not only will this absorb many smells, but it also soaks up some of the liquids that may be on the surface. After letting it sit, use your vacuum to remove the baking soda.
