While summer alcohol typically concerns beer and white wine, winter is about cocktails made with spirits, assorted liqueurs, and other ingredients that help you feel warm when it’s cold. Review these warm cocktails ideal to serve at winter family gatherings, intimate dinners for two, and other instances calling for libations, such as nights in front of the fire.

What Are Cocktails You Can Make In the Winter?

1. Hot Buttered Rum

Sip the delicious cocktail by combining 1 tablespoon of soft butter with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and a dash each of nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a mug or Irish coffee glass. Add 2 ounces of dark rum and top it with 5 ounces of hot water to finish the cocktail.

2. Hot Cocoa With Hennessy®

alcoholThis is a perfect cocktail to sip while you’re sitting around the fireplace. Start by pouring 1 ½ ounces of brandy into a mug or coffee glass, followed by ¾ ounces of spices syrup, three drops of pure vanilla extract, and 5 ounces of hot chocolate.

Stir the mixture thoroughly, then pour 1 ounce of heavy cream over the drink using the back of a spoon, which creates a layered effect. Garnish the steamy beverage with grated dark chocolate and nutmeg.

3. Caramel Irish Coffee

Create a sweeter version of traditional Irish coffee. Add 1 ounce of your favorite Irish whiskey to an Irish coffee glass, as well as 1 ounce each of Irish cream and butterscotch schnapps. Top the alcohol with whipped cream and caramel syrup. For an extra warm drink, pour hot water into the glass and dump it out before adding the ingredients.

4. Swedish Glögg

Take a cue from Sweden by remaking the country’s famous glögg recipe. A traditional seasonal gift, the recipe requires pouring one bottle of red wine into a 2 to 3-quart pot with an optional 1 ½ cup of vodka or bourbon. Also add 2 tablespoons of orange zest, ½ cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of raisins, 1 tablespoon of cardamom pods, a cinnamon stick, eight cloves, and a slice of ginger root.

Heat the mixture to 175 degrees Fahrenheit and simmer for two minutes. Let the mixture stand for an hour, strain to remove the additives, reheat the drink, then add a few almonds to each glass with orange slices for garnish.
