If you don’t like the way your smile looks, ask your dentist about veneers. These thin, tooth-colored shells can be attached to the front of healthy teeth to improve their appearance. Here’s more information about this option to prepare you for an informed conversation with a professional.

What Cosmetic Issues Can Veneers Fix?

Dental veneers are designed to correct teeth shape, color, texture, or size. Reshaping a tooth can also correct its perceived angle, making your smile appear straighter. If you have gaps between your teeth, two adjacent teeth can be treated to cover an opening.

veneersThese cosmetic solutions are typically made from porcelain, which mimics the opacity of natural teeth. Their color and shape are customized to create a particular look or blend in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth.

How Are Veneers Placed?

Placement is typically completed in two appointments. During the first session, your dentist numbs the site with a local anesthetic and reshapes the surface of your teeth to make room for the veneer. They then take impressions of the site, sending these to the dental lab that will design your permanent veneers. Next, the dentist places temporary caps on your teeth so you can talk and chew comfortably in the interim.

Once the permanent veneers are fabricated, you will be asked to return to the dentist for final placement. The dentist will clean your mouth to remove bacteria and detach the temporary coverings. Next, they will use special bonding adhesives to attach the permanent caps to your teeth. Each affected tooth will be smoothed down and polished to create a uniform look, and there is no recovery period for the procedure.

After the treatment, brushing twice a day and flossing daily will help preserve their look and your oral health.
