How Do Safety Sensors Keep You Safe?
Photoelectric sensors detect obstacles that are in the door’s path, reversing movement so the object or person isn’t harmed. In the past, the doors had to make contact to begin the reversal process, but this technology detects obstructions early to improve safety.

How Do Garage Door Sensors Work?
Each door typically has two sensors that work in tandem to create an infrared beam between them. The sensors are on either side of the door, about six inches off the floor. When you press your remote to open the doors, a radio signal activates the motor that starts the pulley system, raising or lowering the unit.
Sensors must be properly aligned to maintain the beam. If one is failing, it will usually blink to allow homeowners to schedule repairs before it fails. Dust and dirt can also interfere with the connection, so clean the sensors periodically with a soft cloth. When cleaning, tighten any loose screws and position the face of each unit so the sensors are facing each other to ensure full functionality.
