Whether you own a commercial business, residential complex, or an office building, maintaining your parking lot is necessary to ensure safety and proper traffic flow. Over time, paint lines can start to fade, and fresh striping will become a critical form of upkeep. As you prepare for parking lot striping service, use the tips below to streamline the process.

4 Preparation Tips for Parking Lot Striping

1. Inspect & Repair

For optimal visibility, aesthetic appeal, and durability, striping should be performed on even pavement. Before the painting team arrives, inspect all areas of your parking lot. If you notice cracks and damage, schedule pothole repairs in advance.

2. Clean Thoroughly

Dirt, gravel, rocks, debris, trash, and oil stains are common in parking lots. To ensure clean, even striping, take the time to sweep, pick up trash, and clean the lot. If you notice waste runoff or slick oil stains in areas where paint lines will be, power wash a day or two beforehand.

3. Create an Alternative Parking Plan

With this in mind, alert employees, residents, or customers of your parking lot closure. Invest in temporary signage and cones to block off the area, and create an alternative parking plan at a neighboring business or on the street to minimize the disruption to daily operations.

4. Keep the Area Dry

After the striping is complete, the paint will need at least 24 to 48 hours to dry before the surface can be walked on and driven over. Check the weather forecast and plan the project accordingly. Turn off sprinklers and create protective barriers as necessary to reduce the risk of water runoff ruining the paint while it’s drying.
