Do you love to travel but can’t find the time to see the world? Indulging in cuisines and beverages popular in other countries and cities is the next best thing. Many regions have a signature cocktail, which incorporates ingredients and flavors unique to the specific area. The following are a few popular happy hour drinks perfect for experimentation the next time you’re at your favorite bar

4 Cocktails From Different Areas of the World

1. Raki

A traditional Turkish drink, raki is a distilled beverage usually made from grapes, plums, or figs. The beverage also includes aniseed, which gives it a spicy licorice flavor. It’s believed that raki was first invented about 300 years ago, which was also the advent of the distillation process in this region of the world. Raki is often paired with cheese, seafood, and tomatoes, which are typically served cold.

2. Piña Colada

barPuerto Rico is famous for its sun, sand, surf, and its national drink, the piña colada. Piña coladas include rum, heavy cream, cream of coconut, and pineapple juice. The mixture is poured over crushed ice for a refreshing treat. While there is debate about its exact origin, it’s believed the drink was first created in 1954 at the Beachcombers Bar.

3. Pimm's Cup

Way back in 1840, a London fishmonger named James Pimm began selling a special tonic at local oyster bars. This tonic, which is now known as the light and airy Pimm's Cup cocktail, contained gin, herbs, fruit peels, and botanical ingredients, like quinine. Current versions also include a splash of ginger ale, which gives the drink some nose-tickling bubbles.

4. Manhattan

New York is known for its sophisticated Manhattan drink. This cocktail is made from a mix of whiskey, vermouth, and bitters. Like many cocktails, its origins are a bit vague, but it’s generally believed the Manhattan was invented in the 1880s at a party honoring Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill’s mother.
