The holidays are often full of opportunities to socialize with friends and family. However, this may be stressful for those who cannot hear others clearly. This year as we navigate Covid 19, we realize get togethers with friends and family will be limited with most wearing masks.  Addressing hearing loss with an audiologist may help to make these situations easier. In the meantime, here are some ways to help with communication.

How to Navigate Communication While Dealing With Hearing Loss

1. Limit Background Noise

It’s easier to hear what someone is saying if there are limited noises in the background distracting you. When you are speaking with someone, scope out a seat that’s away from other major sources of noise and distractions.

2. Try Small Conversations

3. Be Honest With Others

Being honest with others can help you have more authentic interactions. Let others know that you sometimes have trouble hearing and set up visual cues, like touching your ear, if you didn’t hear something clearly. They’ll be likely to enunciate, speak louder, or include hand signals to communicate.
