Cabinets serve as storage space and add style to your home. Eventually, though, you’ll need to replace them. Here are some signs it’s time for new bathroom or kitchen cabinets

How Can You Tell if You Need New Cabinets?

1. Severe Damage

Kitchens and bathrooms produce steam, humidity, and water that can contribute to problems like warping, fading, peeling, bubbling, and sticking doors. If you only have one or two damaged cabinets, you could consider repairing them. However, when the majority of your cabinets have severe issues, replacement makes more financial and practical sense.

2. Weak Materials

kitchen cabinetsAre your cabinets starting to feel flimsy or soft? They may be made of materials like medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or particleboard.

These composite products consist largely of filler materials and adhesives. This makes them weaker than cabinets made purely of wood, metal, or another strong material.

If you fill weakened cabinets with too many heavy items, they may collapse, damaging your home and possibly causing injury. Prevent this situation by replacing these cabinets as soon as possible.

3. Mold

Mold thrives in dark, moist spaces, which is why it’s often found in bathroom or kitchen cabinets. If you don’t regularly clean your cabinets and discover multiple rough, fuzzy, or velvety stains on them, it’s likely time for replacement.

The unnoticed mold may have permeated your cabinets so deeply that it’s made them structurally weak. Address any causes of mold, such as leaks, before having new cabinets installed to prevent future growth.
