Protect your concrete driveway? What does that even mean?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! By sealing your concrete this will protect the concrete from cracking or flaking, or in extreme reduce from concrete failure. When water hits concrete, that concrete absorbs up the water and can cause pressure on the concrete. Freezing water expands and causes stress on the concrete, which leads to it cracking and flaking. So why before Winter? Typically in the winter we de-ice our driveways and sidewalks with a de-icing salt. That salt can be absorbed within the concrete and when the temperature is uncontrollable for the salts, the water then freezes. Causing the freezing water to expand and again puts pressure on the concrete. As well as the de-icing salts being absorbed into the concrete and can corrode the steel reinforcement, which can weaken the concrete and cause failure.
