As businesses slowly reopen during the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), you might make strides to offer a cleaner, safer environment for customers and employees. To that end, investing in epoxy flooring is worth considering. Made of resins and hardeners, the coating serves as a protective barrier to help surfaces last longer and make it easier to remove dirt and additional grime. So you know what to expect during the appointment, below are answers to common questions about epoxy flooring.

Common Questions Regarding Epoxy Flooring

What floor types is epoxy used on?

Due to its durability, epoxy is used on concrete floors in industrial and commercial spaces, such as warehouses, hospitals, and schools. It will also keep residential garage floors from corroding. There are numerous types of epoxy coatings available, including quartz sand varieties that are praised for their slip-resistant abilities, mortar coatings that are sturdy and long-lasting, and gravel-based solutions that add a decorative element to surfaces.

How is the solution applied?

epoxy flooringBefore applying the epoxy paint, a concrete floor needs to be cleaned and degreased to remove debris. Next, a mixture of muriatic acid and water is poured on the floor and left to dry. After the surface is dry, a technician will mix the resins and hardeners together to create the epoxy paint. The solution is placed on floors in a few coats using a handheld roller.

How long does it take to dry?

It takes approximately 24 to 72 hours for epoxy floor coatings to dry. The second coat should be applied 12 hours after the first coat to ensure the layers bond. Humidity can slow the drying process, which should be taken into account before application.

What texture does it leave?

Once applied, epoxy floors with polymer additives are often smooth to the touch. Non-slip additives can also be applied for improved traction. Epoxy with water-based resin flakes will add a granule texture and depth to surfaces.
