Microblading is a manual form of tattooing that uses a sterile, single use hand tool with needles to implant pigment into the brows, replicating the look of hair growth. The result consists of perfect brows that last about one to three years before a touchup is needed. Here are some aftercare tips to keep your microbladed brows in top shape for as long as possible.

Do:

Expect mild swelling.

After microblading is performed, you may feel and see slight swelling and redness in the area, and your brows may be tender. This typically goes away one or two days after the appointment. If you are having some discomfort, you can take acetaminophen, but avoid blood-thinning pain killers, such as ibuprofen or Aspirin®.

Moisturize.

Eyebrows require proper moisture to heal well. Technicians may give you a specific healing balm, but if not, choose a healing balm like Aquaphor and use sparingly. Avoid products containing fragrances that can cause further irritation.

Keep them clean.

Cleaning the area is important, but do not douse your brows in water, especially in the first few days as this can affect the pigment. Wash your eyebrows daily with an antibacterial soap or gentle baby shampoo. Avoid exfoliating for at least a month.

Don’t:

Wear makeup.

microbladingAs you heal, the only product you should be using is the provided healing balm or a light moisturizer. Do not apply makeup or other lotions and creams as these can lead to an infection or reaction.

Overheat or sweat.

Sun and ultraviolet exposure can change the color of the tattoo, and sweating will fade brow pigment. As you heal, limit your sun exposure, and put your workout plan on hold for the first 14 days. Stay away from the tanning salon for the duration of the aftercare period, as well.

Scratch.

Microblading can cause itchiness, but this is a normal sign of healing. Do not scratch or pick at the area, especially if there is scabbing. Not only will this affect your color, but it can also cause scarring or an infection.
