While you may think table centerpieces are a minor part of your wedding decor, they are one of the first aspects that guests notice about the wedding reception. Fresh flowers always make for stunning centerpieces, but they are not your only option. If you want to make them unique, below are a few ideas for creative centerpieces.

A Guide to Creative Wedding Centerpieces

1. Table Mirrors

Tabletop mirrors are flat, reflective surfaces that add a dramatic touch to any wedding reception. You can find them in square or circular shapes for small tables, as well as mirrored runners for long, rectangular seating arrangements. Anything you place on top of the mirror will take on a new dimension and add a stunning point of interest to the table. Candles, marbles, confetti, glitter, and flowers are all the more eye-catching when you arrange them on a table mirror.

2. Colored Sand

wedding receptionColoring sand is a popular activity for kids, and you can create sophisticated and wedding-appropriate varieties to use as a centerpiece. First, add craft sand to a bowl, and then fill it with water until all of the sand is wet. Then, add a few drops of food coloring and mix until the color is even. Finally, scoop out the sand and let it dry on a tea towel.

Another option is to lay the sand in a thin, flat layer on a paper towel and run artist’s chalk over it lengthwise until you achieve a full, uniform color. Place the sand in colored layers inside clear glass bottles or vases, and add flowers or other design elements to make the sand pop. You can even let your guests take these home as a beautiful reminder of your special day.

3. Cakes

Cake is an undeniable highlight of any wedding reception. Consider putting a single layer of cake in the center of every table, along with knives, small plates, and serving utensils. Not only are wedding cakes beautiful and captivating creations, but you also don’t have to worry about serving the entire room individually. Keep the top tier at the head table so that you and your new spouse can still cut the first slices.
