If your property includes a lot of natural greenery, professional tree care is essential for keeping the landscape safe, vibrant, and healthy. In addition to trimming, your trees need to be evaluated periodically for signs of disease. If you notice the following conditions, have a professional take a look and determine the best course of action.

4 Common Tree Diseases

1. Anthracnose

Anthracnose is the most common disease that impacts various species of trees and shrubs, particularly flowering dogwood and sycamores. This disease is caused by fungi that attack leaves, twigs, fruit, and flowers.

The condition results in premature leaf defoliation and twig blight. A tree care expert can apply a fungicide treatment directly to the buds to eliminate these problems and promote the health of your greenery.

2. Apple Scab

Apple scab is a disease that affects leaves and crabapples in the early season. The main symptom is the appearance of lesions that resemble scabs on leaves and fruit.

While this issue is primarily a cosmetic problem, extreme cases can result in premature defoliation. A fungicide with the key ingredient fenarimol will stop scabbing and keep the trees visually pleasing.

3. Cedar Rust

tree careCedar rust is a disease primarily found in hawthorn and crabapple trees. The condition causes red, rust-like spots on leaves. Twig cankers can also occur in some species. The disease can be rectified if the appropriate fungicide is sprayed on the affected areas or if juniper trees are planted nearby to take over as hosts of the rust. The species is more resilient to this condition.

4. Oak Wilt

Oak wilt is a lethal disease caused by the fungus ceratocystis fagacearum. When it sets in on white, red, and other oak species, it essentially cuts off the plant’s water-conducting system.

Once the fungus starts to spread, leaves will discolor and wilt rapidly. Keep oak trees alive and healthy by having them sprayed with a systemic fungicide every growing season.
