Moving to a new home is exciting. Keeping a watchful eye on your little ones during the process presents logistical challenges. Fortunately, there are several practical ways to entertain them and keep them preoccupied while the movers are working.

How to Entertain Your Toddlers During Your Move

1. Keep Some Essentials Aside

While you want to be proactive about packing everything away, don’t stuff your toddler’s most precious belongings into a box that might end up on the movers’ truck.

Keep a separate box aside and fill it with everything your little one might need to stay busy, including coloring books, crayons, activity and puzzle books, stickers, stuffed animals, and preferred toys that they love. Put some new items in the box so that they’re more likely to stay focused while you’re busy dealing with your move.

2. Create Some Outside Fun

moversSpending all day cooped up inside while the movers stream in and out of the house can be confusing for toddlers. Have a close friend or family member, or a babysitter, take your child outside where they can play for a while as your belongings are moved to the truck.

Encourage them to play in the backyard, so long as they aren’t anywhere near the moving company. They can swing on the playground or kick a ball around for hours.

3. Occupy a Single Room

If a box full of toys and playing in the backyard won’t do the trick, you may want to keep a single room off-limits for a few hours. Let the moving company know that your toddler is playing inside and that you’d prefer to save this room for last. You can also put a sign on the door to minimize confusion.

Stock the room with some toys, books, and games that are safe and easy for them to use, and quick for you to pack. Don’t forget the snacks and beverages.
