The showing is an integral part of buying or selling a home, but the COVID-19 pandemic has made the process much more complicated. Fortunately, real estate agents understand that people still need to find new housing, so they’re taking steps to protect their clients and themselves while showing a home. If you’re planning on touring a property, below are a few tips to get through the private showing safely.

3 Tips for Touring a Home During COVID-19

1. Abide by Quarantine Restrictions

Hawaii has instituted a mandatory 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling out of state, and you may need to isolate yourself if you’ve come into contact with anyone infected with the virus. If you’ve been advised to quarantine, follow the instructions and ask the real estate agent to reschedule the showing. This helps you protect the agent, the seller, and anyone living in the house.

2. Wear a Mask

real estateDuring the showing, the real estate agent will ask you to wear a mask, which helps slow the spread of the virus. This is especially important if the agent will be showing the property to several other people that day. Droplets containing the virus can hover in the air for hours, so without a mask, you might unknowingly expose someone who comes to see the house later in the day.

3. Follow Social Distancing Guidelines

When you’re touring a property for rent or sale, follow social distancing guidelines just as you would in a store. Stay at least six feet away from the agent and anyone else in the building. If the place has small rooms, this might mean waiting for someone to leave before entering or touring certain parts of the home by yourself.
