Ordering takeout pizza at the end of a long day or week can help you relax. If you’re like most people, that pie can easily last for the next few days. Here are some reheating tips to ensure the food retains its flavor and consistency.

How to Reheat Takeout Pizza

1. Oven

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the pizza on a piece of aluminum foil before setting it directly on the rack and cooking for 10 minutes. This method provides even heating and creates gooey cheese without turning the crust into a rock. However, if you’re only heating up one slice, the oven can be a tad inefficient due to the energy it requires and the heat it produces.

2. Pan

When you only have one slice, the stovetop is a more efficient option. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the pizza for a minute or two to crisp up the bottom.

Then, remove the piece and add a few drops of water to the pan. Return the slice and cover the skillet with a lid. This steam effect will make sure the pie is heated through and the cheese is fully melted.

3. Microwave

pizzaIf you’re pressed for time or starving, you’ll probably want to use the microwave. However, if you’d like to avoid a dry, brittle slice, lower the power by 30% to 40% before hitting start.

Reducing the power will keep the sugars in the food from reaching their melting point, which is what causes microwaved pizza to harden once it cools down. Instead, you get a soft, pliable slice. If you have patience and a toaster oven, throw the heated slice in for a couple of minutes to restore some crispiness to the bottom.
