Bungee fitness is an exciting, dynamic way to exercise. This gravity-defying workout is great for mixing up your routine, but you’ll need to adhere to best practices. It’s essential to follow the following do’s and don’ts so you can safely use the equipment and get the most from your workout.

Do:

Wear the right clothes.

Bungee fitness relies on a bungee cord and harness anchored to the ceiling. During a workout, you push against the cord’s resistance while using its support to reduce stress on your joints. Wear flexible clothing that won’t restrict your range of motion. Choose shorts or pants that are long enough for the bungee harness to fit over and supportive shoes. Avoid exposing your stomach so the harness doesn’t rub against your bare midsection.

Stretch.

These workouts require lots of jumping and pressing into the resistance cords. Stretch thoroughly for 10 minutes before your workout. You’ll warm up your joints and extend your range of motion so you’re able to perform well.

Don’t:

Stop moving.

bungee-fitness-st-louisBungee fitness is designed for seamless transitions. Muscle-building and toning come from the resistance that the cords create. The aerobic component, responsible for burning fat and increasing endurance, comes from movement. Keep moving through the workout. Move from squats into pushups and sprints into jumps, for example. Constant movement keeps your heart rate elevated so you burn the most calories.

Rush into complex moves.

Like all exercises, bungee fitness has a learning curve. Don’t try to perform complicated moves when you’re just starting. This prevents injuries and accidents during group classes. Instead, stick to the basics. Pushups, sprints, squats, lunges, and planks are easy, highly-effective moves that workout your entire body. They’re also the foundation for learning more intricate jumps and spins. Perfect your form with the instructor until you’re comfortable with each.
