Both antique and modern mirrors are fragile, so you must pack them carefully before moving them into a safe storage space. Luckily, there are many ways to keep them secure so they last for generations. Use the following guide to prepare your mirrors for long-term storage.

How to Pack Mirrors for Safe Storage

1. Tape

Use painter’s tape to cover the glass surface and protect it from scratches.

Place the pieces in an X-pattern. If the mirror does break, this pattern will hold the glass in place to prevent injury. You can also add pieces horizontally and vertically like a grid to keep the mirror from shattering if it gets bumped around en route or in the unit.

2. Cushion

For odd-shaped belongings, use plenty of packing paper. Newspaper works well, so tape a few sheets around the mirror before packing it away. Alternatively, use old T-shirts to provide extra protection.

3. Label

Write “Fragile” in big letters on the box containing your mirror so you remember to transport it with care.

Label all sides of the container so you can see the warning no matter where you place the box in your safe storage space. When loading the unit, avoid placing any boxes on top of this one to prevent breakage.
