The COVID-19 pandemic has placed limitations on many everyday activities, from shopping to schooling. Golf is one hobby that you can still participate in safely, thanks to its expansive outdoor courses. Waikoloa Village Golf Club on the Big Island in Hawaii is taking added precautions to keep players safe during this time. Here are a few tips on how to protect yourself and others while enjoying the green.

5 Safety Tips for Golfers During COVID-19

1. Wear a Mask

Masks are required throughout Waikoloa Village Golf Club. This includes in the pro shop and starters station, as well as when approaching the beverage cart.

Consider investing in a reusable cloth mask made of breathable fabric for greater comfort. Wash your golfing face coverings regularly, as they may have absorbed sunscreen and sweat from your time on the green.

2. Maintain Social Distancing

The club is enforcing a social distancing policy, so try to maintain six feet of space between yourself and others. Those who violate social distancing guidelines will be asked to leave.

3. Bring Your Own Drinks

golfAlthough the beverage cart is still available, no coolers or sand bottles will be provided with golf carts to prevent a possible spread of infection. However, you can bring a small cooler of your own, but no alcohol is allowed.

4. Limit Group Numbers

Groups are currently limited to five players maximum. A party of five is only permitted as long as you keep up with the people ahead or allow smaller, faster groups to play through. It’s also recommended that everyone in your party is from the same household.

5. Comply With Contact Tracing Measures

To meet contact tracing requirements, the staff must verify every golfer's personal information. Be prepared to provide contact details to the staff. If you’ve traveled from Oahu, you will be asked to provide proof of a 14-day quarantine or your flight itinerary.
