Millions of people are now working from home or attending classes online, having a reliable Wi-Fi connection is more important than ever. A spotty or weak signal can bring everything to a screeching halt, but luckily, most common problems are relatively easy to fix  Here are a few reasons you might be having difficulties with your Wi-Fi connection.

How to Solve Standard Wi-Fi Problems

1. Slow Service Speeds

A slow connection is usually caused by a device being too far away from the router. If your speeds improve when you move closer, an extender to expand the range may be needed. Contact Delhi Telephone Company at 607-746-1500 to discuss your options.

Another common problem is limited bandwidth. If your connection slows dramatically when everyone is online at once, your speed package may not have the capacity to handle the traffic. In this case, contact DTC at 607-746-1500, about increasing your bandwidth.

2. No Service in Certain Parts of the House

If certain areas of the house have no service at all, you may need to consider moving your router. This is especially common if you have the router in one corner of the house, where it can’t reach rooms on the other side.

3. Sudden Loss of Service

If your Wi-Fi intermittently cuts out, try to find out if anything triggers the change. For example, microwave ovens, baby monitors, and other common household appliances can interfere with Wi-Fi signals, so you may need to move your router or work station.  If you have DTC Managed Wi-Fi, please contact us at 607-746-1500 to assist in troubleshooting.

4. Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi

If none of your devices can connect to the network, try plugging your laptop directly into the router with an ethernet cable. If that works, you may have to power cycle your router by unplugging it for 10 seconds.  This may resolve the issue.  It is important to contact your internet provider first.  Restarting the router can erase valuable diagnostic information.
