While the end goal of sunroom installation is relatively straightforward, the process involves multiple steps. If you've never gone through this construction before, you can avoid surprises along the way by reviewing the steps below.

The Sunroom Installation Process

1. Preparation

A significant amount of work goes into the home addition long before any construction begins. First, evaluate the space and choose a design that fits it. After taking measurements, a professional will then draft the blueprints and order the materials. Additionally, they'll submit permit applications in advance to ensure they're ready by the time building begins.

Once the paperwork is complete, there's some onsite work to handle. Typically, you'll need to remove foliage and level the ground unless there's already a patio where the sunroom is going. In that case, professionals will break it up and remove it.

2. Foundation & Framing

3. Doors & Windows

Your construction team will build space for the doors and windows in the framing. However, they'll still need to be attached and sealed. If there's a need for stairs, they'll also be added at this point in the installation.

4. Electricity

Adding electricity to your sunroom is optional, but it helps increase the functionality of the space. Outlets, ceiling fans, overhead lighting, and sconces are popular additions, and you can include heating and cooling if it's a four-season room. For this step, the contractor will tap into your home's ductwork and extend it to the space. If the current furnace and AC arrangement can't handle the additional load, a ductless system is a suitable alternative.
