The U.S. Department of Agriculture released this week end-of-month stocks of meats, dairy products, poultry products, fruits, nuts, and vegetables in public, private and semi-private refrigerated warehouses for July, 2020 (see full report here).

The report shows that commodities stored in public warehouses accounted for 81% of total stocks, with private and semi-private spaces taking up the remaining 19%. Frozen red meats and poultry remain the most popular items in public warehouses, that stored 94% and 93% of total available stocks for those categories last month.

Natural cheese and frozen juice concentrate were the major sources of year-on-year growth for public warehouses, up 6% and 23% respectively. There is still room to grow in these categories since they have a significantly lower contribution of stock in public warehouses than other commodities.

Stock stored in coolers remains low compared to total freezer  space (18% in public warehouses and 21% in total storage space) but it is the major source of growth for agricultural commodities.
