People with less-than-perfect vision can usually choose between two solutions: glasses or contact lenses. If you choose contact lenses, your eye doctor will discuss the best option for you, whether that’s hard or soft lenses. Learn about the pros and cons of each option to make sure you choose the one that best fits your lifestyle.

Hard Contact Lenses

Hard contact lenses, or contact lensesrigid gas-permeable contacts, are durable while still allowing adequate oxygen to pass through the lens to the cornea. They offer clear, crisp vision and can correct most astigmatism. They’re easy to care for and can be worn safely for years, as long as you clean and disinfect them nightly.

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft, disposable contact lenses are easy to insert and generally more comfortable to wear. They come in many varieties that can be replaced in time frames from a day to a month. The daily lenses are the most popular since they require no disinfecting, while the monthly lenses need to be removed nightly and disinfected.

Both hard and soft contact lenses correct far and near vision problems. Talk to your optometrist about which is the best option for you.
