Bathroom remodeling can breathe new life into your home. Updating the room with new tile, plumbing fixtures, showers, and vanity areas will make it more convenient and enjoyable. Unfortunately, making the wrong choices can have the opposite effect. Here are three common mistakes you should avoid making.

3 Bathroom Remodeling Mistakes to Avoid

1. Selecting Impractical Materials

When you choose materials for your new bathroom, think about their function. Even if they look attractive, slippery floor tiles and high-maintenance counters may cause more problems in the long run. Before you select any materials for your bathroom, research their longevity, care requirements, and general reputation with past buyers.

2. Ignoring Storage Needs

Calculate the amount of storage space you have now by measuring cabinets and counting drawers and open shelves. If you need more space, include that in your bathroom remodeling plans.

3. Reducing Light Levels

If you plan to change the floor plan, don’t block natural incoming light. If existing windows are in areas that will compromise privacy, consider frosting the windows instead of removing them altogether.

If your bathroom doesn’t have a lot of natural light, ask contractors to add windows, canned lighting, or undercounter LED lighting under vanities. A bright bathroom is not only safer and more functional but also looks airier and more welcoming.
