If you’ve arranged with an HVAC contractor to perform air conditioner replacement or installation, it’s smart to prepare in advance. The more quickly and smoothly the process goes, the sooner you get to enjoy your new AC unit, and in some cases, the less you’ll have to pay for your technician’s time. Here are a few tips to make air conditioning installation easier.

How Can You Prepare Before Your HVAC Contractor Arrives?

1. Clear the Area

Figure out exactly where your indoor and outdoor units are going to go and make sure there’s nothing blocking the space. Outside, clear away debris, toys, and yard tools, and trim back any branches, leaving at least a foot of space on all sides of the unit. Inside, move furniture out of the way, and tidy up any belongings that might be underfoot. Also, make sure there’s a clear path to the front door.

2. Park on the Street

They may need to make multiple trips in and out for tools and supplies, so the shorter the distance, the faster the work will go. Clearing the garage also gives your technician an alternate route to get in and out, which may be more convenient.

3. Make Arrangements

Young children and pets can be a distraction to your HVAC contractor while they’re working, and they may also get stressed out by the change in routine. If possible, arrange for someone to watch them at another location while your air conditioning is installed. If you can’t do that, try to keep them in a separate room until the work is done.
