Indoor plants are the perfect way to beautify your living spaces, naturally cleanse the air, and reduce humidity. When tending to house plants, it’s important to provide greenery with sufficient water and light to ensure they stay healthy. Here are a few signs indicating your plants need a bit more sun exposure to thrive.

4 Signs Your Indoor Plants Want More Sunlight

1. Minimal Growth

Plants get their energy by channeling sunlight into their leaves and turning water and carbon dioxide into glucose. This process, known as photosynthesis, cannot occur without exposure to the sun’s light energy. When your plants are barely growing or only produce small, sporadic leaves, they’ll need a sunnier spot to call home.

2. Browning Leaves

Eagle-River-Indoor-PlantsWhile some plants brown due to a lack of water, other species will start to brown around the edges of leaves due to a lack of sunlight. When you notice brown leaves, check the soil first to rule out this issue. If watering is not the culprit, a lack of light is likely causing the color change.

3. Damp Soil

The soil in potted plants will dry out as the roots draw water inward. Greenery won’t absorb water without sufficient sunlight as both components are necessary for photosynthesis. When soil remains damp for days or even weeks on end, odds are you need to move your pot to a position with more sun.

4. Leaning

When a house plant is craving sunlight and senses a resource nearby, it will start to slowly lean toward that energy. Thus, you may notice branches and leaves favoring one side or trying to grow closer to the window. Rotation or repositioning to allow for full sun exposure can promote better growth and will slowly retrain your plant to stop leaning.
