4 Ways to Cook Cobia, Bon Secour, Alabama

Although it is not as famous as snapper or tuna, cobia is a prized fish that is popular among anglers and diners alike. Nicknamed the black bonito, this seafood is famous for its texture and flavor. If you’ve had it at a restaurant and want to replicate the experience at home, or try something completely new, here are several ways to cook a cobia filet.

Common Ways to Make a Cobia Seafood Feast

1. Broil

Broiling is one of the easiest ways to cook cobia. Start by preheating the grill and brushing a pan with olive oil to prevent the seafood from sticking. Then, put the cobia in the pan, drizzle it with lemon juice, and sprinkle salt and pepper to taste. If you want a spicy kick, cayenne pepper is an excellent complement. After this, broil it for five minutes, flip it, and broil an additional five minutes. Serve with lemon wedges as a garnish.

2. Saute

seafoodFor this method, turn the stove on high and heat three tablespoons of olive oil in a pan. Add about four cloves of minced garlic, and then reduce the heat to medium. Saute the garlic until it pops. While the garlic is cooking, season the fish with salt, pepper, and oregano, then place it in the pan. Saute for three minutes on each side. Sauteed cobia is a healthy, light way to enjoy this delicious fish.

3. Grill

Start by lighting your grill and keeping the temperature hovering around 400 degrees. While waiting for this, lightly brush the grates with olive oil to prevent the seafood from sticking. Season the fish with salt and pepper and grill it for about five or six minutes on one side and flip it, then cook for another five minutes. Remove it and garnish with lemon wedges. This provides a nice, earth flavor, as well as a crispy sear that you are sure to love.

4. Fry

You can also fry the fish if you want a delicious meal that will delight your taste buds. Pat it with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture, then season it to your liking. Most recipes call for salt and pepper, but cayenne, chili powder, and thyme are also excellent options. Then, heat a pan and cover it in two or three tablespoons of olive oil. Fry the fish for three to five minutes on each side, or until the the skin is crisp and the meat is white.
