You rely on your well to deliver pure, fresh water to your home year-round. Unfortunately, like any appliance, the well is a comprehensive system that’s not immune to occasional problems. A common one is dryness, which can limit your access to water altogether. Here are a few signs you should contact a water drilling technician for assistance.

Is Your Water Well Running Dry?

1. Different Water

You can usually detect a change in the water’s taste right away. In this case, a change in flavor may be accompanied by a different appearance, too. If the water looks muddy or has a dirt-like aroma or taste, it could be due to weak groundwater supply. When water levels decrease, the quality diminishes due to the amount of sediment at the base of the well.

2. Poor Pressure

Assess the pressure at different faucets. If it flows slowly, takes a while to come through at full force, or never quite reaches that point, the issue could be related to decreased water depth.

3. Continually Running Pump

Your submersible pump shouldn’t run nonstop. If it continuously cycles, that means it’s building up a significant amount of pressure in the tank and putting excessive strain on the pump. When the part behaves this way or keeps turning on and off, it could be due to a significant loss of water. Eventually, a water drilling technician may need to replace a burned out motor or the entire pump if the problem is left unresolved.

4. Sputtering Faucets

If faucets throughout the house sputter or just barely produce water, it’s likely due to reduced water levels. If there isn't enough water available, only air will travel through the inlet pipe when the pump tries to extract water from the well.
