For many homeowners, having beautiful floors is a must. As such, if your hardwood flooring recently sustained a minor dent, you might be looking for ways to rectify the issue. Luckily, there are some simple and effective methods you can follow at home. Consult the following guide to review some options and get started.

If the Fibers of the Flooring Are Still Intact

Your clothing iron might be of use in fixing your floor. This handy household appliance can do more than get rid of wrinkles in your shirt. If the dent in the floor is minor, it can coax the wood back to its original condition. Start by placing a damp cloth over the affected area. Then, use an iron set to mid-temperature and gently rub the dent. This will loosen the fibers, so they come out of their concave position.

If the Fibers of the Flooring Are Broken

If the plank’s fibers have fully broken where the dent resides, but the rest of the plank is in good shape, you can use wood fillers. Fillers come in two different types: plastic and putty. Plastic fillers create a blank canvas on which you can apply a finish and stain, while putty comes prefinished.

Then, depending on the type of filler you used, you might need to apply a finish to the entire plank. Once the finish has set, apply the stain to achieve the same color as the rest of your hardwood floor.
