While it’s tough to live without a washer and dryer in your home, a laundromat is still a great option. With the high-tech machinery available, you’ll have no trouble keeping your clothes clean. Still, it’s a challenge to transport your clothes to and from the facility and wait for the cycles to end. The trips can be smoother and more pleasant if you incorporate some helpful suggestions into your laundry care routine.

4 Tips for Doing Laundry at a Laundromat

1. Prepare Beforehand

Do any necessary pre-stain treatments and sort your clothes into whites, darks, and delicates before leaving home. Have a roll of quarters handy for coin laundry machines, too. That way, you can focus on quickly finding a machine to start washing when you arrive.

Also, grab a handful of detergent pods or tabs and dryer sheets so that you don’t have to lug large containers or boxes with you. If possible, go when it’s less busy and more machines are free; weekday afternoons are typically best.

2. Inspect the Machines

Before using the washers, smell them closely. Copious amounts of bleach may ruin your clothes, so choose a different machine if you detect it.

When it’s time to use a dryer, empty the lint trap to ensure that your clothes will thoroughly dry in one cycle.

With both machines, wipe them down with a clean cloth and white vinegar. That will help you remove any mold or mildew that may have accumulated from previous cycles so that your clothes come out clean and smelling nice. Make sure you adjust the settings on each machine to suit your needs as well.

3. Stay Occupied

However, this could cause other patrons to remove your clothes from the machines and pile them up somewhere for everyone to see so that they can have a turn before you get back. Do your best to bring something to do without leaving the laundry facility.

4. Transport Carefully

When you’re finished, it makes sense to fold your clothes or put them on hangers before leaving the laundromat. Carry them in a basket to prevent wrinkles. On rainy days, consider bringing garbage bags as well so that they don’t get wet.
