If you often play golf as a group, sticking to the same routine can get boring. If you’re out with a group, for work or play, trying out different games will allow for more socializing and team-building as well as honing essential skills. To reinvigorate the competition and fun of this hobby, consider trying out one of these games on the course.

What Are Some Fun Ways to Play Golf as a Group?

1. Scramble

Also known as best ball, the scramble is ideal for big groups and varying skill sets. Players break into groups of two to four and compete against each other. Each team chooses one player to drive, and then the best drive is decided on by the group. Then, the next shot is taken from wherever that drive landed. The process is repeated until a team gets a ball in the hole. In some versions of the game, each player is required to take a minimum number of different types of shots so that no single person takes over the game.

2. Two Clubs & a Putter

golfIn this four-person game, each golfer selects two golf clubs for each hole they lay. The golfer can then only use those two clubs to complete the hole and won’t be allowed to exchange clubs with fellow players or replace their club with another club in their bag. Typically, the putter is a wild card that can be used as you see fit on the green. Scoring is determined by the two-ball net total of each team.

3. Skins

This game can come with monetary benefits if you assign each “skin” a value. Basically, on each hole, the player (or team) with the lowest score will win a point or “skin.” When players tie on a hole, the additional skin will apply to the next hole. For example, if two players par the first hole, the next hole will be worth two skins. If on the next hole a player scores a birdie and the other player pars, they’ll win two skins. Tally up your total skins at the end to find the winner.
