In addition to furniture, aquariums are other large objects that professional movers are tasked with transporting to clients’ new homes and offices. Aquariums have several components, which is why you need to prepare the investment for moving day. The following advice is meant to ensure the aquarium and fish get to the intended destination safely.

What Supplies Will You Need to Move an Aquarium?

You’ll need to remove the fish and gallons of water in the tank before the professional movers will pick up the aquarium. To do this, you’ll need a fishnet to scoop out your pets and baggies to transfer them to the new home. A siphon hose is needed to drain the water from the tank. Afterward, you’ll need to encase the glass sides in bubble wrap and insulated foam sheets before placing the aquarium in a moving box. You’ll also need to wrap the LED lamp, filtration equipment, and other detachable components in a plastic wrap before boxing.

How Do You Care for the Fish?

Cincinnati-Ohio-professional-moversWhen you scoop the fish out of the aquarium, smaller species can be placed in the baggies with tank water and then put in a hard cooler for stability. For more room to swim, larger fish should be transported in gallon buckets. Stop feeding the fish one or two days before the professional movers arrive. This way, the fish will eliminate all the waste, so you won’t have to worry about cleaning the water while you’re busy tending to other tasks. Fish can live for three days to one week without food

How Do You Drain & Set Up the Tank?

When you use the siphon hose to drain the tank, don’t get rid of the water. Siphon the liquid into five-gallon buckets to replenish the tank when you move in. The fish are already familiar with the chemical makeup of the water, which can prevent them from getting sick. Seal the buckets with lids. To set up the tank in the new space, run the filtration system, and make sure the temperature, chlorine concentration, and pH level are correct before you transfer the fish to the aquarium.
