Radiant flooring is the perfect way to keep your home—and your feet—warm, no matter the time of year. Sometimes called heating under hardwood, a radiant floor is a type of engineered wood flooring that has a heating system beneath it. Carolina Wood Floors in Winston-Salem has over 25 years' experience in new flooring installation, refinishing, and maintenance—and radiant flooring is one of their specialties.

Here they share three facts about radiant floors:

  • There Is A Three-Step Heating Process: With hydronic radiant heating, heat is achieved through a three-step process. First, a water heater warms the water. Then, the water is pumped through a network of tubes installed in the subfloor. As the water circulates, it releases its heat and is then pumped back to the heater to be reheated and circulated again. With electric heating, special cables are installed over the subfloor; these cables are heated via electrical sources. In both types of heating, water is usually 80 degrees or higher.
  • There Is A Science To Installation: Installing radiant hardwood floors is a bit more complex than a standard floor. Your installer at CWF will ensure that you have selected an appropriate type of hardwood, taking into consideration things like the moisture content of the wood and the seasonal temperature variations of the room.
  • There Are Benefits To Radiant Flooring: A radiant hardwood floor will obviously help keep you warm and comfortable. But there are other radiant wood floor benefits too. These include a potential reduction in energy costs (radiant floors can hold heat more efficiently) and the flexibility to refinish as you see fit. Carolina Wood Floors is here to ensure you get the most out of your radiant flooring.
